I've looked in the locations that several people hear have suggested and have found where it is supposed to be. But, all that is on the right side above the foot rest in a hard to read place are the rivets that apparently haeld the tag.
Any suggestions as to how to track parts or is the serial number that important?

I'll check the books to find the location is supposed to be. Many of the Deere's are above and to the right of the pto. ....

Depending on what kind of parts you are looking for, the serial number can be pretty important. There are usually other clues to point you in the right direction if the number is not available. Sometimes a casting number on a housing or checking the physical dimensions of a part can help determine which part is right for your tractor. If you have a skilled parts person he/she should be able to let you know what clues to look for. If the parts person isn't able to help, see if they will let you talk to a technician. They run into missing serial numbers all the time when trying to order parts. Good luck! ....

While I dug into the books and the 1020-1520-2020 are all on the right side of the transmission case. Engine numbers are embossed on the right side of the engine block. ....
